Third Cat

Entry from Shock Value in Nur Ein XIV.

Make a song with quiet and loud parts -- like every Pixies song you love. This can mean crescendos or decrescendos, sudden loud noises, whatever, just make good use of dynamics.

"Shock Value" - Third Cat

those days would surprise me
i never knew what i'd see

head fell in the back seat
too clever to kiss her feet

now I feel
nothing's new
just no shock value

some thrills aren't what they seem
a melting couch, our breathing dream

burned holes right through my brain
my vacuum pouch filled with rain

now I feel
nothing's new
just no shock value

need a real way in
so I can feel again

these days just remind me
of someone else I used to be

(instrumental break)

now I feel
nothing's new
just no shock value
there's just no shock value

enjoyed this one quite a bit, as usual you've got plenty of great ideas (that drop-out to sub-bass stuff is cooooool). Some of the rhythmical shifts early on felt a little clunky to me but I liked everything else about this one I think. Really interesting vocal layering and FX.

I love the vulnerability of your vocal in the quiet sections; the vocal melody meshes intriguingly with the instrumental music, too. I think the electronic bits could be toned down, but this song sounds good and is really interesting (which I mean in an entirely positive sense). Could be a little longer.

super vague lyrics. They are definitely not what makes this song great. I love the two vocal lines. The swelling of the arrangement is lovely; but like others the compression takes out some of the volume dynamic making it color dynamic.

I get that you think there’s no shock value anymore, but other than that your lyrics just confused me. A bit of a dreamy sound, and that’s what this song reminds me of. Waking up from a dream you can barely remember anything about.

Lush. Timing feels loose in places. The constant change-ups propel this song forward, but rob it of cohesiveness.

NOT BOMBASTIC

The Sunday Colours: Pretty and catchy and authentic sounding. Authenticness is the the enemy of bombast.
