Use the Royal Road chord progression

LyricsShow lyrics

Chorus uses the Royal Road progression in C Major, FMaj7–G7–Em7–Am (this was the example given on Wikipedia and I am nothing if not lazy)

This song didn't really go where I intended, at a certain point I decided to just roll with it and recorded a Pet Shop Boys style sing speaky verse halfway through, which I'm not sure works but fuck it, why the hell not.

This song is about the current state of moral panic and transphobia in British politics and media, which is really shit. One thing the media does a lot is distort, misrepresent or completely falsify evidence to support their transphobia - a good example is the article from the guardian this week, in which they claim "less than half in Britain back gender-affirming care for trans teenagers" - https://www.theguardian.com/society/202 ... -teenagers. A quick look at the actual polling in the article shows that 47% of UK residents think trans teenagers should be allowed to receive gender-affirming care, while only 35% don't. Take out the 'don't knows' and its 57% in favour.

So I was thinking about that when writing this song and how fucked up it is that people have gotten caught up in this manufactured culture war bullshit

The Lowest Bitter - The Numbers Don't Lie

who's left to trust
in a kingdom of disgust
with the attacks coming every day
when they falsify and fearmonger at every turn
and when you challenge it,
they only say
they say, they'll say "we have reasonable concerns"
but what they mean, they really mean
is "we wanna see you burn"

(an amoral panic! yeah everybody's at it! oh god!)
they hit you with the evidence
the numbers don't lie
they just get twisted out of context,
massaged to sell a story I won't buy

don't you know we're all just crabs in the same godforsaken bucket
you let them choreograph your claws while they're skimming off the budget
the way they conjure up a culture war, it's classic misdirection,
you've been sold the myth of decadence in a decade long recession

they say, they'll say "we have reasonable concerns"
but what they mean, they really mean
is "we wanna see you burn"

(an amoral panic! yeah everybody's at it! oh god!)
they hit you with the evidence
the numbers don't lie
they just get twisted out of context,
massaged to sell a story I won't buy
(an amoral panic! yeah everybody's at it! oh god!)
they hit you with the evidence
the numbers don't lie
they just get twisted out of context,
massaged to sell a story I won't buy

the numbers don't lie, a story I won't buy
the numbers don't lie, a story I won't buy

pretty neat electro vibes. the spoken bit that comes in at around 90 seconds is a nice touch. It has me bobbing my head by the end. nice groove.

chewedupspitmeout: instrumental seems a little awkward at places as far as timing but the vocals are good. mix seems a bit washed out overall but I do love the sound of the vocals so maybe it's a good trade off.

Mix sounds good. Not a big fan of some of the sound choices, like the stab… and video gamey synth, but… everything together sounds good. Feels like it just kind of ends after some good energy throughout…
