Partly Fiction
by Cavedwellers

Glennny: resonator guitar, bass, drums
Truth: 12 and 6 string guitars, tenor banjo, mandolin, tin whistle, vocals

A choir trip to Scotland
Then a Eurailpass alone
The south of France to sing and dance
We met in London town
Paris, Rome and Tuscany,
Nice was nice indeed
Pizza in St Mark’s piazza
Blessed rosary beads

It’s partly true and partly fiction
Wherever you go, there you are
I brought the drama, you, the friction
But I saw the rising of your star
But I saw the rising of your star

Heidelberg for language school
Rome for much the same
Back again, Andalusian
Durty Dublin my new hame
Ireland on a rock tour
Finland tour as well
Lombardia wedding party
Greece, more wedding bells

It’s partly true and partly fiction
That those who wander aren’t lost
When rambling on is an addiction
You always underestimate the cost
You always underestimate the cost

(Reel)

“Liverpool, Leeds or Birmingham”
Well not Leeds, but the rest
Villa Park, a game by dark
To see the team that’s best
Scotland with a one year old
England, turning three
Wales with a two year old
Joining the family

It’s partly true and partly fiction
My wandering days are at an end
If I may make a bold prediction
Having sold my freedom for a friend
You and I will see the journey‘s end

I find these lyrics slightly annoying, particularly "hame", but I think annoying lyrics are kinda par for the course for this genre you've wildly swung into, and I have to admire your commitment to the big swing. The double-time instrumental bits are very fun. Very difficult to rank!

Do you know that Fairport Convention album: Full House? It’s a mutual favorite of Truth and me. We’re going for that kind of a jam. Truth knocks it out of the park with the mandolin, banjo, tin whistle, and guitar playing. His vocals are top notch as usual. I enjoy everything about this song. Hope you all enjoy!

Love the mood in this as it kicks off - really establishes itself. Then the reel is both unexpected and a totally natural extension of what you've set up. I like the overall lyrical theme, but I feel like these could be punched up to make more immediate sense - maybe in the first chorus, since I'm not sure how "I brought the drama, you the friction" fits in with the later choruses, and seems to be mainly a rhyme choice.
