The Dogs of War
by the Cavedwellers
All in favor, raise your hand.
Motion carries. Take the stand.
Tell me what you thought we had in common.
You’re a girl and I’m a boy?
Hardly common ground, I'd say.
We'd share more if we were men or women.
It may be true that opposites attract,
But when that's through, the differences bite back.
You like “The Dogs of War,”
I like the “Hounds of Love,”
And I don't think you'll come around.
You say you compliment me well
I'm not buying what you sell,
All I want is someone who relates.
But if you were in fact like me,
With problems fully packed like me,
I’d need an exorcist for my soul mate!
It may be true that opposites attract;
Why can't you admit the basic facts?
You like “The Dogs of War,”
I like the “Hounds of Love,”
And I don't think you'll come around;
You like Ronald Reagan,
I like Carl Sagan,
There's no need to play it down.
The dogs of war have slipped today,
Now that the tyrant is driven away,
But Dave Gilmour discovered Kate:
Maybe someday we’ll conciliate.
All in favor: aye, or nay?
We live to fight another day.
It may be true that opposites attract;
We will make do and hold the old contract.
You like “The Dogs of War,”
I like the “Hounds of Love,”
And I don't think you'll come around;
You like Ronald Reagan,
I like Carl Sagan,
There's no need to play it down.
You are the Dogs of War,
I am the Hounds of Love,
If only we contain your rage;
I am less reclusive,
And you are less abusive
When you're not cornered in a cage.
