Nick Soma - A Sense of the Absurd
Mondegreen song: "Slow Down" by Nada Surf

Alright, mi amigo, no need to guess,
What we have here is a case of subliminal mess.
Your guitar, I have to listen, I got no choice.
And man, you ain't no Carlo Bruno, but I dig your voice.
So first let me say, it must be awesome to be ya,
You'd make mucho dinero en Andalucía,
But man, you got a certain sense of the absurd,
I mean, what does it mean - listen to my words:

Slow down, slow down
Something's gone unchained, now misspell your name

Stella's my cousin and I know her well.
You must forgive young Stella who cannot spell.
I mean, you killed her softly with your song.
A Spanish guitar can't do no wrong.
But man, this is what the lady heard.
A mondegreen lyric that's just absurd.
Subliminal brainfuck, that's just like you hexed her.
The sound of your voice causing sudden dyslexia.

Slow down, slow down
Something's gone unchained, now misspell your name
Slow down, slow down
She wasn't being mean, it was a mondegreen
You been surfin' on Nada, into the absurd
She fell in love and she took you by word

You see yourself sedate young Tom
So self-assured, heavy.
But when your parrots beg, you act,
You're nice and sure lonely.
Something's gone unchained.
Now misspell your name.
Tired, he fights alone.
Now erase your trail.

Slow down, slow down
Something's gone unchained
Slow down, slow down
Now misspell your name
You got a certain sense of the absurd
I don't know why, but that was what she heard

(Martha help me, there's a bat-winged stranger on the balcony)

You managed to rock out in spite of whatever issues you were having with your voice. I liked the melodies and the energy.

This is like a bristly loofa after Micah's song. Very jarring for a variety of reasons - engineering, flat vocals, off-beat playing, harsh drum decisions. I hear the rough outline of a good song that I'd like to praise, but the rendition makes it incredibly difficult to be persuaded.

Vocals killed this one for me. Not sure I’d have been ok with the lyrics anyways. Even reading along with the lyrics I got lost in the first verse at 1 point.
