The Sunday Colors

Entry from Shock Value in Nur Ein XIV.

Make a song with quiet and loud parts -- like every Pixies song you love. This can mean crescendos or decrescendos, sudden loud noises, whatever, just make good use of dynamics.

Shock Value
the Sunday Colors

You don't have anything nice to say to me
But that hasn't slowed you down from trying
Just once I wish you'd communicate sparingly
Though armed with best intentions, you have always evil underlying

Is it too much to ask for? Too much to ask for? To let the feeling stay
And I'm too old to ask for, too young to ignore, and now the time has slipped away

And it's gone, gone, gone, it's gone, gone, gone; and I won't be back for more
And it's gone, gone, gone, it's gone, gone, gone; and I won't be back for more

I won't lift the sword from the stone and lay it down at your feet
Your heart may be a stronghold, but I am not its keep
I won't always let you have your way with me
Our love was a sight magnificent and now there's nothing left to see

Is it too much to ask for? Too much to ask for? To let the feeling stay
And I'm too old to ask for, too young to ignore, and now the time has slipped away

And it's gone, gone, gone, it's gone, gone, gone; and I won't be back for more
And it's gone, gone, gone, it's gone, gone, gone; and I won't be back for more

You speak without thinking
Such a careless point of view
Pay no attention to the content of your message
Only thinking about the shock value
You speak without thinking
Such a careless point of view
Pay no attention to the content of your message
Only thinking about the shock value

You don't have anything nice to say to me
But that won't stop the water rising, breaking down my door

Is it too much to ask for? Too much to ask for? To let the feeling stay
And I'm too old to ask for, too young to ignore, and now the time has slipped away

And it's gone, gone, gone, it's gone, gone, gone; and I won't be back for more
And it's gone, gone, gone, it's gone, gone, gone; and I won't be back for more

You don't have anything nice to say to me

again this is a solid vox+guitar track but it suffers in comparison to the competition. If you have any way of adding some extra instrumentation (even if it's just more guitar and vocal layers) then I really hope you do so! But I enjoyed it and you did a good job of adding dynamics considering the stripped down instrumentation.

This is like a Mountain Goats song with a more pleasant vocal. The sound of the pick on the strings is strangely prominent in the recording. This might benefit from another instrument, but the performances and songwriting are very good. Overall, it’s very aesthetically cohesive, and I liked it a lot.

another great song! The music is pleasing to listen to, the message is sweet, and lyrics are beautifully crafted with a medieval twist. Production is quiet, but I’m not the one to ask for tips on that front. Maybe sit closer to the mic?

Really enjoyed the guitar playing on this one. I’m curious to see how far you can go in this competition without upping your production value though. Your lyrics flow nicely but, the story didn’t really draw me in, and was a little vague for my liking. I may not listen to this again, but it did get me curious enough about your work to want to here more.
