Entry from Where The Streets Have No Name in Nur Ein XIV.
Tell a story from the end to the beginning
Where The Streets Have No Name
by Max Bombast
I made a statue of myself to prove that I was here
I wrote a book, when it was done everyone had disappeared
I had a wife who took her life because she knew we were the last
Saw the end of everything when we witnessed the collapse of the world
We ventured out onto the earth that had been frozen stiff
After weeks inside the shelter where the two of us had hid
The only sounds had been the storm
Even the radio was dead
Saw the earth had been transformed
We fled into the oubliette
From the worms in the sky
Our forefathers forsake us to die
Where the streets have no name
When there is no one left to see the signs
Hidden beneath the Ice
The sky is full of tornadoes
By now it's too late to undo what we did
The ocean is frozen forever
We both had front row seats to the apocalypse
Our forefathers forsake us to die
Where the streets have no name
When there is no one left to see the signs
Hidden beneath the Ice-niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine

This is awesome. On first blush this is the winner. I am blown away with your vocal performance! The melody is great. I can imagine Jeff Buckley doing this song. In fact the stripped down instrumentation evokes the whole My Sweetheart the Drunk album. I love the writing and the drumming. I guess I should read the lyrics. Here I go. Very cool! Love them! FTW!
I like the slower tempo, this is probably my favourite of your songs so far. The lyrics appeal to me as a fairly recent Vonnegut convert, vocals are impressive, especially the falsetto parts and the killer harmonies on the "sky is full of tornadoes" verse. Still not crazy about the general hyper-compressed vocal sound though, it leads to some very loud breath sounds, sibilance and other weirdness that takes me out of the moment a bit. Also I love that you got the word "oubliette" into the lyrics, as a lifelong fan of the film Labyrinth that made me smile.
Ok I take it all back from last week. This tempo really lets you shine. You're milking those notes vocally and I can feel the atmosphere. This is a great track dude.
Your vocals again just amaze me. I didn’t know what an “oubliette” was until I Googled it. Is that common knowledge? I could just be clueless, but that might throw some people off. I liked the phrase “worms in the sky” a lot. Yeah, don’t have any complaints other than that minor one I mentioned, I really liked this. This is in the running for my top spot.
