Your Light No Longer Shines
Boffo Yux Dudes
NARRATOR #1:
We sailed out to Bitter Island
To see what we could see
Was left of Finley Lighthouse
The beacon of the sea
It was years since it had been there
Its memory just a ghost
Of deeds and travels long forgotten
Way out upon the rocky coast
CHORUS:
Your light no longer shines
As it once did in olden times
You sentinel from shoals on high
Kept watch as all the world sailed by
NARRATOR #2:
I sailed out to Bitter Island
In 19 aught and three
To be a lighthouse keeper
And forget about my Audra Lee
My assignment was the Finley lighthouse
So grand and shiny as a gem
This world, you see, was not for me
But that lighthouse took me in
CHORUS
Your light no longer shines
Nobody’s waiting down the line
No solid beam, no sailor’s dreams
Of home, no smokestack steam
NARRATOR #2
So many years passed quickly by me
I’d lick my wounds and tend the light
I tried in vain to ease my pain
As ships would pass me in the night
One day a storm blew up to damn me
The lighthouse was no more
And I too, was just a victim
Of the ocean’s ceaseless roar
CHORUS:
Your light no longer shines
No safe harbor, no ship’s whistle whine
You’re all alone, the ships went home
Replaced by airplane drone
NARRATOR #1:
We dropped anchor at Bitter Island
No ruins there we found
But we could swear, floating on the air
We heard this plaintive sound
CHORUS
Your light no longer shines
Your faded vision just reminds
Us all of days long gone, and so,
My friend, so sad to see you go
