Kids
By Ross Durand
Featuring various kitchen items, storage tub and 10 ft hose with funnel

Kids on the beach, Kids in the ocean
Kids on the hill got to keep the fires goin
Kids in the forest, kids on the watch
Gotta listen to me because i got the conch

Some kids cry and some kids won't
Some kids hunt and some kids don't
But everyone's afraid of the beast on the hill
Everyone's afraid of the beast on the hill
Everyone's afraid of the beast on the hill
You gotta keep em all afraid of the beast on the hill

Listen to me cause i got the conch

Who's got the meat, who's got the fun?
Who gets to paint their faces and go on the hunt?
Who's gonna survive and keep the pigs on the run?
Who doesn't give a care about who's got the conch

Cause everyone's afraid of the beast on the hill
Everyone's afraid of the beast on the hill
Everyone's afraid of the beast on the hill
Don't tell the kids there's no beast on the hill

Now there's planes in the sky And ships on the ocean
And the kids have got a red phone with their finger on the button
Kickin sand on shoes, drawing lines in the dirt
You better not cross it or you might get hurt

Cause everyone's afraid of the beast on the hill
Everyone's afraid of the beast on the hill
Everyone's afraid of the beast on the hill
You gotta keep em all afraid of the beast on the hill

Who's got the conch?
Who's got the conch?

Last week I said I wish I had written your song, but I don't think I could really write anything that good. This one actually sounds like something I might have written. Especially as it is about one of my favourite books. I like the drums (or whatever it is) and the way the song is written - but, because I am really searching for faults here - I am going to mark you down on your accent. And your descended testicles. Your voice just doesn't say "Lord of the Flies" to me. I want a pre-pubescent English boy (OK - I know the Courts and their Restraining Orders won't let me have one). Maybe a bit of Kyrie Eleison would have convinced me more. I have to mark these some way - but the bottom line is this was still entertaining.

I liked the pacing of this, and kitchen stuff kinda sounded like wind chimes...that was cool. Is this about a movie or something? Sounds familiar, but something I hadn't seen in maybe a loooong time.

On the one hand I like the atonal aspect of the things you’re hitting, but my ambivalence holds hatred for it in the other hand. I also think maybe this is too short. This doesn’t have the full arc of a song. I am impressed and jealous of your concept. Good freaking idea! The melody isn’t much of a melody. Don’t get me wrong it totally works, but I think a melodic hook somewhere good elevate this song. You know like “too much, Magic Bus!”. This is very cool, and very good. I won’t be surprised if this makes it to the finals. Awesome job!

Love the concept and the bold execution as well. I love Lord Of the Flies (book) and totally dig this. You could almost run it parralell to Man-Glut's, using it to speak of today's frothin media fear mongers. Feels longer than it is, not a complaint, because so much happens. I think the length is fine and the 'conch' wonderful. Predicting either this or WSA to go up against Merisan in the final.

This rocks. Unfortunately it's hard to make out a consistent-like melody (and the "bass" doesn't keep the pitch, neither in itself nor relative to the lead vocals), which I think detracts from the song quite a bit. Inventive, though. Very metaphorical song (disclaimer: haven't read the novel). I can stomach that today. Nice job.
