Heart Shaker
by Ross Durand

And we’re off and I’m comin’ outta turn number one
And I’m way out in front like I’m the only one in the race
And we’re headed into turn number two
And I’m comin around to the straightaway

And the checkered flag is a wavin in my face
And the crowd goes wild and I jump out and wave at the fans
And two men in black suits and glasses come and take me away
On a secret mission...

On a sumbarine in the deepest sea
Under the polar ice
Searchin for Russian submarines
Hidin from Chinese spies

Runnin silent a deep
Except for the sonar beep
And something’s getting closer
And closer and closer and closer

Dive! Dive!
It’s right on top of us!
And if we escape from this then someday I...

Can ride a bull in the rodeo
Somewhere down in Mexico
The senoritas love it, don’t ya know
Let the cervezas flow

Think I could retire here from my adventurous life
Settle down with kids and a wife
But something ain’t right
Cause that ain’t me

I’m just that guy from the third floor
Never sailed a sub or raced a car
And now I know what these beeps are for
And I ain’t dyin in Mexico

Imaginary life passed before my eyes
But I’m just a regular guy
Wish I could say goodbye before I go
They shook my heart to wake me up but even so
It seems my time is here

Honestly on the first listen I wasn't a fan of this until the big reveal. The performance & music was great, but I was thinking to myself "This story is just all over the place." Then at the end I was like "OOOOOOHHHH", and all was good. :p

I honestly tried to like this, particularly because there actually is a creative use of a flatline tone here. I wasn't too sure when you tried to sell it as a sonar, but in the end it all came together, so all is well in that department. But... I just can't keep up with this song. It keeps jumping back and forth in what I'm tempted to call a rushed manner. This goes for both the composition and the lyrics. I like all the individual parts but they don't really come together. Add to that the somewhat sloppy vocals, and I have to call this a mixed bag.
