The Handbook - Jules Iolyn

Soar right through the limits placed on you
Willingly be unabashedly free
Tell ‘em when they’re wrong, you know to stay strong
‘Cuz they’re gonna wanna walk all over you

Passive, don’t be, be active without apology
Be stubborn like a man because you can
Admit when you’re wrong and then move on
Don’t just sit silent and be scared

You can make it easier
Let the load be lighter

You can be free
Live effortfully and sincerely

Don’t fear, my darling dear
You’re a powerful rare breed

There may come a time
You acquire an anxious mind

In that circumstance
First, face it head on
Then make sure you’ve eaten
Then make sure you’re sleeping
Then rule out the who’s and these moods

You jealous or are you nervous?
You hiding or are you lying?
Have you been cruel?
Or caught trying to be too cool?

Then, remember that you can’t change the past
And you control how you react

Hopefully this will guide you to clarity

your voice is the best part of the song again, vocals sound great. I'm not crazy about the constant shimmer of chorus (?) on the rhythm guitar, it's not a dealbreaker but I feel like the song would be better without it. The lyrics are fine but another song where I don't feel like it's a particularly interesting take on the challenge - the two opening verses basically pass the challenge but they read like a list of slogans for motivational / self-help posters than step by step instructions to me.

An impressive vocal track in an otherwise forgettable track. I know that doesn't sound good. But I listed it because the vocal track is just really really nice.

Jessica Lea Mayfield-ish, w/ chorus guitar, good vox control

I have essentially the same notes as last time--fantastic vocals, but if someone else was covering this, I’d probably lose interest immediately. The melody meandered a bit, and the lyrics, while I can’t complain about the messages, came across sort of like empty platitudes, so I found it hard to engage with lyrically as well. I also didn’t like the sound of the guitar quite as much as last week’s song. Still a pleasure to listen to on the strength of your performance, though.

Facking. Gorgeous. I love your voice and the quality. Some of the lyrics you sing are a little hard for me to understand, and I think it's just a note that you need to be a little more awware of your enunciation on some of the quicker notes, particularly if they don't have any hard consonants in them. Some of the little bits between the sustained notes were lost on me because it's a lot of soft sounds that blended together. I also think that the second half gets a little messier than the first half overall, which makes me want to ask if this was a single live take? If so, well done! Otherwise, I imagine you were just running into the deadline for the production, which is gonna happen. Overall, love it, looking forward to more!

I really like your voice! It’s rather Norah Jones, especially with the sparse, intimate instrumentation. You are a little pitchy at times- might be that you need a little more practice on the song?a week is a short amount of time to get it written and in your voice. The lyrics, I can tell you wrote them with a mind first to how they sound rather than what they mean. That is to say, they are a bit vague and on a cliched subject, but the sound of the phonemes is lovely and make a wash of sound in your voice over the meditative guitar line that makes me feel content and relaxed.
