Entry from Shock Value in Nur Ein XIV.

Make a song with quiet and loud parts -- like every Pixies song you love. This can mean crescendos or decrescendos, sudden loud noises, whatever, just make good use of dynamics.

Shock Value
by Merisan

You want a shock
I’ll give it to ya
You’ll never want it to stop
A current running so hot

I see you watching
You’re waiting to see
Just how far this will go
Will you stay for the show

Violent
Victim of the blood shed
Where do you draw the line
Powerless
To the disease
Don’t ever shut your eyes

It’s not a safe place
To spend the night
But you’ll pay any price
To surrender your rights

I hear you breathing
I know what you think
And you know that it’s wrong
But you want to belong

Violent
Victim of the blood shed
Where do you draw the line
Powerless
To the disease
Don’t ever shut your eyes

Shock value, you pay the price
Shock value, you pay any price
Shock value, you pay the price
Shock value, you pay any price
Shock value, you pay any price
Shock value, you pay any price
You pay any price
You pay any price

Violent
Victim of the blood shed
Where do you draw the line
Powerless
To the disease
Don’t ever shut your eyes

Violent
Victim of the blood shed
Where do you draw the line
Powerless
To the disease
Don’t ever shut your eyes

same comment as the previous round really, it's slick and enjoyable but this style is about 5% as personally interesting to me as your synthpop stuff was. I guess the breakdown section is dynamic but it didn't feel like an inspired take on the challenge to me.

I’m not sure whether I like this or love this, but either way, it’s a strong entry. Lots of good stuff and no complaints.

I really like the panned intro to this song. It’s so satisfying when you hear it come in on both ears. Dynamics in there with the lead into the bridge by virtue of color- compression takes out volume dynamics. I like the ooohs you do there. I’m not sure if I have a slight genre bias against you or if I’m just really envious of your talent, but this doesn’t really stand out to me. I suspect the first, because listening to your nur ein back log, i really like your early stuff (and I loved your winning song last year, which I think harkened back to that sound). It could also be a case that you guys are just so good that I unconsciously judge you more harshly. Good thing I’m not a judge, huh? This is an objectively great song. Well done!

Another solid entry, that has me mostly sold. Overall it’s a driving force that keeps me engaged throughout. At times there are places I’d like to hear the vocals more...strained? Not sure that’s the right word, but for example I’d like to hear the last 4 “You pay any price” shouts be really belted to the point of a voice crack or even a little gravel.

Hooks for days... somehow every part of this is catchy? These drums are all punch, and they do a wonderful job of driving the song forward. Erin in fine form here, and the dry lead vocal is so immediate. This song wastes no time at all. That solo is exactly the kind of cheese I like. Makes me wanna play some Crazy Taxi.
