MILLION WATTS
Strangely Brown
An undergraduate degree
In civil engineering
Left me technologically proficient
But socially inept
Literate in the finer points of rugby and keg-tapping
But sadly lacking skills
To deal with the fairer sex
I know how to solve complex differential equations
But that is of little use in romantic situations
But when you came along the paradigm shifted forever
I’ve checked my spreadsheets but now I am not
Feeling all that clever
I want to build a bridge between us
I cantilever you alone
The suspension is killing me
I want to drive my pylon home
I’m ill equipped
To express my feelings
With the tools at my command
So let me try to lay out the parameters
In the only way I understand
It would take a million Watts
Ten thousand Faradays
Half a dozen Newtons
And an Einstein or two
To ever engineer something so aesthetically pleasing
Economically viable
And functional as you
It would take a million Hertz
Ten thousand Edisons
An Isambard Kingdom Brunel
And some Teslas for good measure
To ever possibly conceive
A work so fit for purpose
For providing me, efficiently
With so many hours of pleasure
It would take a million Joules
Ten thousand Stephen Hawkings
Certainly a Heisenberg
And some Aristotles too
To calculate the variables
Of this complex relationship
And describe my exponentially
Growing love for you
