Entry from Shock Value in Nur Ein XIV.

Make a song with quiet and loud parts -- like every Pixies song you love. This can mean crescendos or decrescendos, sudden loud noises, whatever, just make good use of dynamics.

Challenge: Dynamics

Mr. Milgram here I am
Unstuck from the traffic jam
What am I to do and say
To Get the experiment underway?
Just ask questions? Piece of cake.
What happens if there’s a mistake?

Turn it up to two
Do what you’re told to do
It’s fine, it’s fine, just do as I say
It’s fine, it’s fine, we haven’t got all day
Ask the questions, press the button
In the name of science this will be worth somethin’

Mr. Milgram what’s your aim?
Does he seem to be in pain?
Doesn’t matter, let’s go again
Here’s another question, friend
Once again you’re incorrect
This shock will help your intellect.

Turn it up to five
He’s fine- hes still alive
It’s fine, it’s fine, just do as I say
It’s fine, it’s fine, we haven’t got all day
Ask the questions, press the button
In the name of science this will be worth somethin’

Mr. Milgram told me to
So this is what I have to do;
He says it’s fine, I’m sure you’re fine,
Do they always wail and whine?
Don’t blame me, just go along,
It’s your fault that you answered wrong.

Turn it up to eight
Hey, you’re doing great
It’s fine, it’s fine, just do as I say
It’s fine, it’s fine, we haven’t got all day
Ask the questions, press the button
In the name of science this will be worth somethin’

Oh, my heart, it’s beating thrice as fast as any
Should, what part of matching words do I not under-
Stand, I thought I’d make a buck this afternoon but
Now, I’m not so sure I’ll make home again so
Tell my wife I said (dissolves into screaming)

Turn it up to ten
Then we’ll go again
It’s fine, it’s fine, just do as I say
It’s fine, it’s fine, we haven’t got all day
Ask the questions, press the button
In the name of science this will be worth somethin’

as you may have guessed from my first reaction post in this thread I absolutely loved this one. It really pushes the Mandibles theatrical qualities to amazing new levels, and the electric shock heavy sections are so good. Love the quiet, high vox section (which I'm guessing is your other member?), definitely an excellent take on the challenge and a really memorable experience of a song!

The uninhibited, unrestrained nature of this song is impressive; I feel like this is unlike anything I’ve heard before. Both the male and female vocal performances are excellent. It has a bit of a novelty feel, but the uniqueness triumphs.

one of the reviews mentioned last time that we should chose between alt rock and rock opera.... be careful what you wish for. 😉 this was fun to put together. As mentioned before we went for color change over volume, but I think it reads as volume. Milgram is one of those experiments that really put the human race into perspective for me, so I’m glad we got to do a song about him, even if it’s a little all over the place. I’m really glad to have brought in Estaphonia on the bridge. You’ll be hearing more from her!

I actually thought about the Milgram Experiment when I thought of this title. I didn’t remember the name, but yeah when your song started I knew exactly what it was about. Vocals were great, and I enjoyed the sounds of the pain being administered. My favorite part of the song lyrically & performance wise would be the bridge at the end. Overall solid entry.

Genius subject matter, if I do say so myself! 😉 I honestly didn't think anyone else would write a song about the Milgram Experiment. These theatrical choruses are, like, Meatloaf-level bombast. Do I hear a mandolin in the verse?
