My wife and I get into fights about things like online reviews where my position is they don't matter if it doesn't work for you or if you don't like it. This, along with similar things, has lead to me consolidating my position into a phrase "life doesn't have an instruction manual". So the first half is me telling her (step by step) how to live without life's alleged instruction manual. 2nd half is me admitting I suck sometimes too and us planning out (step by step) how to reconnect and cultivate our relationship. In the end, the handbook of our lives is what we choose to make of it and we choose each other.

The Handbook - Lucky Spoon

i don't have all the answers you're looking for
don't ask me i know as much as you
life is not a journey you can read about online
knowledge's not experience so you'll just have to find
your way to go

first you take that handbook and throw it out
breathe and let it soak in what it's all about
let your feelings guide you down the path that's in your heart
and even if you're wrong you know you're further from the start
you are alive

[Chorus]
But the words I read in your eyes
and the songs sung in your smile
are the writings and the music
how I want to live my life

I know you’re not the only one who’s feeling beat
And I confess that love is a two way street
Emotion has its place but can get away from me
I need help too

So let’s choose a day to set aside and reconnect
Put away our cell phones and internet
Rest easy in the company of truth that will provide
Reflect on what’s important and re-prioritize
To simplify

[Chorus 2]
Cause the words I read in your eyes
and the songs sung in your smile
are the writings and the music how
I want to live my life

and the way we unify
reflects what is inside
and together we will choose
the handbook of our lives

this is a tricky one for me to rank, because I love the verse but don't really like the chorus at all. The muted guitar chug really gets me on board, and I love the way that first verse / pre-chorus build. The chorus they explode into just doesn't do it for me, and part of that is probably rooted in genre bias - but it takes a beautifully understated song into unexpected stadium-rock territory and... I wish it didn't.

This grabbed me right away. I like the guitar sound and your voice is right up front. But it loses me in the big rock chorus.

I felt sort of guilty not really liking this, but this felt like the musical equivalent of a “Live, Laugh, Love” poster, to me. Aggressively saccharine and positive, and the cheesy, anthemic music works for it, I guess, but doesn’t quite get me on board either. I had this complaint about a lot of songs this week, I guess--I agree with the content, but the way it’s delivered just makes it hard for me to get into. It’s sweet, though, I’m sure your wife loves it.

This sounds like something Dashboard Confessional would put on the Spider-Man 2 soundtrack, and I am here for it! Some of your vocal parts are a bit quiet and then masked by the instruments (the end of the first chorus is where I really notice this), but it's not really an issue. I love that your verse build up throughout them.

this song is great. Like, 80’s rock with a little country peppered in for flavor. I think the lyrics are sweet, and he sentiment is nice. I don’t think you need to know the backstory to get the song, which is a boon in its own right. Your voice is great; I love the little tremolo at the start that adds to the sincerity. The choir- is it a synth, or did you sing it and process it? Great song. Hmm, a criticism.... too much time at the end? Eh.
