UNNATURAL DISASTER / King Arthur

She was exactly the kind of girl
Everybody figured had make a list
Of all the people she would choose to kill
If she ever got the chance,
And so the sherriff came and pulled her out
Of sixth period geometry
And she did not return 'til after
The homecoming dance.

The paranoia grows,
Who knows who they'll be coming after
In their attempts to stop
The next unnatural disaster.

He was exactly the kind of boy
Who never got in trouble
Who never gave the slightest hint
That he was capable of what he did.
One morning he just woke up
Feeling like he'd had enough
And he went and got his uncle's gun
Came back and shot a whole bunch of kids.

And the paranoia grows (chorus)

How can I feel safe, seeing what I see...
I see what's happening, and I'm afraid.
I'm afraid it's too late to turn back.
Turn back the hands of time - well, how can I?

And in the aftermath
I wonder whether the only way
To stop a thing before it starts
Is to lock up everyone.
They promise to protect us,
That action would be taken,
But we always seem to do the wrong thing
When we say "something must be done."

So the paranoia grows
Could be you they'll be coming after
(chorus)

Top of my list last week, at the bottom this week... quite the reversal. I ain't going to mince words: this song is so boring. You must repeat that short little two-chord motif nearly 100 times; by my third spin of the song it had nearly driven me completely mad, like Torgo's Theme. The long, long phrases with sparse rhymes hidden 20 seconds appart make the verses feel like some weird sort of rambling free-verse. I like the little bass flourishes. The backwards stuff makes lyrical sense, but I have to second the chipmunk sentiment... also, the reversed parts are really jarring. Sorry Art.

Oh god, bedtime.
