Entry from For Your Consideration in Nur Ein XIX.
Liner notes:
SpoilerThis song is based on a true story! Two weeks ago, students at Portland State, along with other community members, occupied the library on campus with barricades and tents. Out of curiosity, I visited the site multiple times, and every time I visited, people were being fed and taken care of. Now that it's all over, the media has been reporting only on the instances of property damage, so this song came pouring out of me, to remind myself and others of the profundity of caring for one's community.

For your consideration
Best Lentil Curry of the Year,
I present the lentils granted by the people
at the library of Refaat Alareer
They were seasoned well,
and they warmed me up inside
They were served on the steps
that the students occupied
They were made in the honor
of a poet who died,
and they stood opposed to genocide
For your consideration
Best Lentil Curry in our Town,
I present the lentils granted by the people
on the day before the cops came round
They were made with love,
served by people having fun
And the laughter of the cooks
rang out louder than the guns
And they'd feed you,
whether you'd stay and fight the cops, or whether you'd run,
for the food was there for everyone
For your consideration
Best Lentil Curry of the Year,
I present the lentils granted by the people
at the library of Refaat Alareer
[instrumental]
For your consideration
Best lentil curry that you'll see,
for no one cooks things better than the people
when they're cooking in a place that's free...
Even temporarily.
