Entry from Shock Value in Nur Ein XIV.

Make a song with quiet and loud parts -- like every Pixies song you love. This can mean crescendos or decrescendos, sudden loud noises, whatever, just make good use of dynamics.

LyricsShow lyrics

CHORUS
Come home
Come home
you're not fit to do this alone
and I know that you'd be better
among your own

Come home
Come home
the road you've traveled
is long and worn
but what you're searching for
is what we've always known

Relax old man, chill out I got this
You're kinda past your time
I don't need your silly words
I assure myself just fine
I've been away for far too long
I've found a few new friends
and they tell me that I'm special
at least from what I gather in

CHORUS

All right check it dude
you'll never guess what I got in last night
Ha never mind you silly fool
It might just blow your mind
I think it might have gone too far
but that's just how life is
I got your letter and I read it, thanks
but that's just superficial bliss

CHORUS

BRIDGE
Well I can't just come home now
The life I live won't let me leave
And lose the part of life that's free
I can't face "I told you so"
And see your look of shame for me
I guess it kinda makes some sense
And I've thought it through a lot
but what I've done
would shock you
I've mocked you
what I've done
would shock you
I've mocked you
and sought to... be free

FINAL CHORUS
I'm home
I'm home
no more living on my own
The wisdom of a thousand years has brought me here
I'm home
I'm home
and I love you've always known
that I'd find my way
back home

this is pretty roughly mixed and I have some genre bias against it BUT it uses dynamics really well, is very well written and the harmonies are fantastic, so I'd rank it among the best entries for this round even if it isn't one of my personal favourites.

This is fun and sounds good. It doesn’t stand out a lot, but I was happy to hear it every time it came on. The “come home, come home” melody is good.

I love this song. The prodigal son story, the sweet music, the rocking choruses, the happy ending, the well worked words, the false end, the harmonies... all great.

I think this is a more relatable song than most I’ve heard this round. The title isn’t used in the song, but it’s clearly inspired by it. The story was great, and the singing was solid (especially the chorus). The one thing I’d have done differently is the final chorus though. I’d like to have both characters singing that together with 1 singing “your home” & the other “I’m home”. I really enjoyed this, well done.

I really like the clear vocal delivery, especially on the last line. The overlapping lines between the verse and the chorus are distracting / baffling. Subverts expectations with a quiet chorus. Huge verses with wonderful harmonies and dumb guitars.
