Title: Semiprecious
Challenge: Gradual emphasis of repetitions

It’s hell down in a well
I really shouldn’t be here
Held in wet and dirty hands
Drenched in sweat and fear

I’m a scared little lamb
Trapped by a dirty little man
With a closet full of dresses
Treating me like I’m only semiprecious

I’ve seen his gradual progression
From curiosity to obsession
His hunger is all consuming
But he keeps up with my grooming

I’m a scared little lamb
Trapped by a dirty little man
With a closet full of dresses
Treating me like I’m only semiprecious

He can’t even protect me
I’m a victim in purgatory
He’s on the edge of insanity
He treats me like an accessory

I’m a scared little lamb
Trapped by a dirty little man
With a closet full of dresses
Treating me like I’m only semiprecious

I dislike the country vibe you appear to have picked up. Bass tone is great, mind. Good solo. I actually really like the "bridge". Solo not as appealing second (or third) time around. Really not hearing the challenge being met.

This is from the point of view of Buffalo Bill's captive in Silence of the Lambs, right? (Edited after the fact to say: Ohhh, it's Bill's dog. Feel free to disregard the nitpicks that follow here, sorry I didn't get that.) Okay, so I haven't watched that movie in like 20 years and I've never read the book, but I feel like this isn't quite how I remember it. "He treats me like I'm only semiprecious." I feel like the killer treated that person much worse than semiprecious... But on the other hand I've already spent more than enough words nitpicking this point, so let's move on. Your band always sounds really tight, at least in terms of being in the pocket, but I wonder if this one would have benefitted from some more energy. A little bit more tempo, some more dynamic range, that kind of thing. Certainly there's enough drama in the story you're telling to justify that. As usual, I love your drums, the recording and performance are both top-notch. The guitar work here also shines, and the understated keyboard in the background is just enough extra texture. I admit, I didn't catch how this song addressed the challenge. I'm sure it's in there, but since I didn't get it by myself, I can't help but feel like it's a missed opportunity, covering a character who's driven by obsession. Repetition can be a great technique for exploring the theme of obsession. Maybe it was just too subtle. It's round 0, so I gave everyone the benefit of the doubt anyway, but I'd appreciate an explanation if you could.

fun arrangement, I like the main guitar sound (and riff) a lot and the sparkly keyboard accents and fuzz layers are really nice. The vocal melody feels a little uninspired to me though and multiple guitar solos is always going to test my patience - the harmonised guitar riff towards the end is nice though.
