Forum postWish intro was half as long. Marc Almond-esque. 1:06 vocal melody is better. Hard to get into the sound collage for me musically which is a shame because the vocal melody here is the best so far.
Welcome to episode 264 of my obsession with 17th century witch trials!
I had planned to try to write some funkier stuff this year but the link between the crops failing when the seasons change and the swimming of witches was too much for me to resist.
Sink or Swim by chewmeupspitmeout
Snowflakes fell and covered him
Drew his last breath for his king
His life squandered like so many others
Crying out for wives and crying out for mothers
His widow at home
Bereft and alone
With four mouths to feed
An existance of need
She went to her neighbour
Begging for favour
(A) Few pints of milk for her children
The neighbour replied never she cried
She cursed at the neighbour, wished she would die
In just a few hours
The milk had turned sour
The springtime blooms
And opening buds
The leaves return
To the trees and shrubs
The neighbours ill will
Festered away
Whispers of witchcraft
Spread throughout May
Promised summer sun
Never arrived
When autumn fell
The crops all died
The soured milk remembered
From all those months ago
Was enough to know
Deep in their hearts
Who was the culprit
Who'd torn them apart
To the lake
Bind her limbs
Plunge in the water
Sink or swim

some really cool synth tones here, the burbling sine wave stuff has a bit of a Radiophonic Workshop quality that I enjoy very much. The vocal feels a little tentative in the opening section, much better once the song really kicks in. The arrangement is generally interesting, definitely feels like you're getting into some weirdo hauntology territory. Song feels a little like it keeps building but ends right as it's about to really explode - this may be a weakness or a strength depending on what you do next!
