I know Ashley through FAWM and have done a collaboration with her the past four years in a row and always enjoy working with her. We've recently decided we're gonna try do more collaborations outside of FAWM and try create a transatlantic supergroup ala Songfight's own Vowl Sounds, so when this challenge was announced she was the first person I thought of. As well as singing Ashley wrote the lyrics, which is lucky for me because writing lyrics for another person to sing is hard. Pleased with how this turned out after being pretty disappointed with what I ended up turning in last week, thanks Ash!

Romeo India Charlie - Golf Lemur Alpha are our respective airport codes

The Lowest Bitter feat. Ashley Brewer - Co-Pilot

there's only so far
we can get by car
buses and trains,
you gotta stop every time someone else wants to get off
there's only one way
to get from point a to point b
at the speed you're suggesting

I tried this once before (I barely survived the crash landing)
I haven't tried it again since then (I'm keeping both feet on the ground, standing)
but I think I might be ready to dip my toes back into the sky
'cause nothing gets me higher that knowing I got you,
by my side
nothing gets me higher that knowing I got you,
by my side

Romeo India Charlie - Golf Lima Alpha

we've already bought our tickets,
I don't know what to pack
for a one way trip when I know I'm not coming back
baby hold my hand,
I hear the air might be rough,
but you remind me these things are built pretty tough

I tried this once before (I barely survived the crash landing)
I haven't it again since then (I'm keeping both feet on the ground, standing)
but I think I might be ready to dip my toes back into the sky
cause nothing gets me higher that knowing I got you,
by my side

nothing gets me higher that knowing I got you,
by my side
nothing gets me higher that knowing I got you,
by my side

so lets kick the tyres and light the fires
I'm ready

I'm ready

I like how this flirts with Trip Hop. I wish it dove full into Portishead/ Lovage. Sultry vocals, remind me of such I guess. I don’t enjoy the arpeggiator in the chorus as much as I enjoy the verses. Ashley Brewer is great! Super cool song.

something about the vocals / mix doesn't quite click for me here, it feels a bit too clean for the smoky trip-hop atmosphere maybe? I can't quite put my finger on it but I feel like it stops me fully falling for this one. It does feel kinda magical when your two voices combine on the chorus, and the arrangement is generally nice and spacious, it just doesn't feel like as much of a satisfyingly complete package of a song compared to some of the entries this round.
