Agony Sauce
Where the Streets Have No Name

And the factory burned like the future of the town
All the flames climbed higher as we were gathered around
Set fire to the walls, and they lit up in seconds
They can take all our jobs, but we'll send them a message

T-R-O-U-B-L-E is on the horizon
They're all heartless, and gutless and now I despise them
The fat cats are worthless, they don't know what they're doing
Do they even know how many lives that they've ruined?

WHERE THE STREETS HAVE NO NAME AND THEY'RE DIRT OR THEY'RE GRAVEL
AND THERE'S NOT MUCH TO SEE, AND NOT FAR YOU CAN TRAVEL
THERE'S GOOD-HEARTED PEOPLE AND THAT'S HALF OF THE BATTLE
WOULDN'T TAKE VERY MUCH FOR THIS ALL TO UNRAVEL

Took a belt to his neck and he hung from the rafters
John felt fooled and betrayed but now none of that matters
Kept the stockholders happy, with the money they saved
They closed down the factory, the decision was made

By now it feels like this building's been here forever
Our town grew and blossomed, and it changed for the better
This job seemed like the best thing that had ever happened
In no time, They built the structure they had imagined

WHERE THE STREETS HAVE NO NAME AND THEY'RE DIRT OR THEY'RE GRAVEL
AND THERE'S NOT MUCH TO SEE, AND NOT FAR YOU CAN TRAVEL
THERE'S GOOD-HEARTED PEOPLE AND THAT'S HALF OF THE BATTLE
WOULDN'T TAKE VERY MUCH FOR THIS ALL TO UNRAVEL

So he spoke up and said why don't we give them a chance
My friend John's well respected, and he's good with his hands
And most of us are skeptical, told them to leave town
Modern industry wants to plant some stakes in our ground

The salt of the Earth, filled with faith, hope, and charity
Hard working people, the promise of prosperity
We don't have a lot, but we get by eventually
This city was formed at the turn of the century

WOULDN'T TAKE VERY MUCH FOR THIS ALL TO UNRAVEL
THERE'S GOOD-HEARTED PEOPLE AND THAT'S HALF OF THE BATTLE
AND THERE'S NOT MUCH TO SEE, AND NOT FAR YOU CAN TRAVEL
WHERE THE STREETS HAVE NO NAME AND THEY'RE DIRT OR THEY'RE GRAVEL

What I love is everything Glenn Case : he vocal performance and melodies. The drums , bass and guitar are all nice. Then there’s the fucking spelling thing. Stop it. Then there’s the atrocity of verbosity, but that’s a trap this challenge laid out and you fell in to. The lyrics require reading. I don’t get it from just listening. I’m not enjoying the chiptunes synth, seems out of place also.  The sample of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir? (I’m half kidding) , I can’t understand it. What are they saying? I like a lot of the chord choices you make. Overall it feels too long, and I’m not engaged with the story.

love the guitar tone, it's kinda jangly, kinda crunchy, sounds really good. Vocal sample really works well, I love it every time I hear it. Clever storytelling, and the way the arrangement works in reverse complements the lyric - although it does have the side effect of making the last chorus feel slightly anticlimactic. My only real critique is that the melodic shift on the very last line feels really jarring to me, which is probably the desired effect (and sticks in the head) but the end result is a really great song that finishes on my least favourite element which leaves me in a Weird Place.

A song that actually hits home with me a little atm. You can’t tell a story backwards much clearer than this. Unfortunately, for the first time your cumulative challenges mission kinda affected the song for me a little. The sample you used threw me a bit because I couldn’t make out what was being said. It still sounded nice….but it just annoys me when I can’t pick up lyrics. Really enjoyed the end where you flipped the chorus around...embracing the backwardness of this challenge.
