Abominominous - Pump The Brakes

Even when you're right you're wrong
but you barrel merrily along

progress is rapacious
can't stop to tell you what a rose was
we built this city on exploitation

you're right, you're wrong
but you barrel merrily along

scorch the fields to cinders
you can't argue with results like these
just hard-coded to prosper
at the cost of common decency

we awoke
before long we had broke down into systems
learned how to monetize suffering
dug it up, put fire to the piston
drew lines and knives and defenses
took a number in a subjugatin' system
put our faith in convergence
put our face in the furnace
take advantage, one up when we shouldn't
funnel up, heavy handed, clay footed
get a good price at a terrible loss
get a good price at a terrible cost
we built this city, it's a monument to avarice
vertical integration of the heartless
lost face at a furious pace
we can't stop now
but pump the brakes

even when you're right, you're wrong
but you barrel merrily along

Really groovy start. The voice and lyrics match the melody and pace of the song. Reminds me of Thee Dog Night, a tad. You sound like you’re having fun.

ooh, a slowie. You're playing with fire dropping the tempo with these judges! But it works for me, I still have some genre bias here but there's a great laid-back groove to this one that I like a whole lot. Laid back does drift into "slightly scrappy" a few times later on and I did wonder if maybe this would be better if it ended a section earlier but if that meant we lost the gorgeous harmonised lead guitar part then that'd be a shame. This one sounds really good driving with the windows open after we finally got some sunshine this week.

Started off with a chill “Why can’t we be friends” vibe. I actually liked your first couple lines as well. I thought it was the good jumping off point for a diss track even if the song didn’t set the mood I was expecting. However I wasn’t able to pick out who your target was, and it didn’t take long before (again) I just couldn’t follow anything. Aside from that, there were places where the song slows down or gets distorted & feels out of place. The first example that bothered me was, “we built this city on exploitation”. And I don’t know if anyone told you, but your song ended around the 3:30 mark. It’s always awkward when the musician is last to know...

Nice spacious groove, I like that organ sound and the guitars sound great. However, it did kind of overstay its welcome for me... at 3:50 I thought it was about to end and was surprised to find it going on for another minute and a half after that. (But I do like the harmonized lead bit there at the end.) Nice production and performance all around. Lyrics-wise, I think the lyrics are sharp and nicely written, but I don't think I ever would have called this a diss track. I appreciate it but it didn't connect with me personally.
