Just your everyday tale of a serial philanderer that thinks that every new relationship is going to be ‘the one’ but they never are and every time he comes back to his wife hoping to go back to ‘normal’, but this time she kills him with a fruit knife. Based on something true, except the murder bit, which I made up.

Vocals from The EarGoggle, who I met through FAWM, and who was super-patient with my demands and delivered a lovely vocal. Can I link to his Bandcamp? Is that allowed? If I am, you can find him here: https://theeargoggle.bandcamp.com/music - if that’s not allowed, someone say, and I’ll delete that bit. Though he’ll still be there, waiting for you to visit.

It’s really odd getting someone else to sing your words – I think how I sing is obvious and normal, but it turns out it’s weird and I mangle words and rhythms in a way that is tricky to replicate! Fortunately, what The EarGoggle sent back to me was way better than the draft guide vocal I sent him!

Co-Pilot by The Dutch Widows feat. The EarGoggle

Sitting at our table is it true that no-one knew?
All your fears dismissed as fable, the truth has shown you what you should do
If I’d made the best life choices spent more time covering my tracks
Didn’t need to see this coming to know this breath would be my last

Everything’s the same (nothing needs to change)
Co-pilot of my dreams (not what she seems)
She promised me a life free from this boredom
It sounded pretty sweet, just like heaven, but it wasn’t

Drinking stale mojito, lemons, limes are just for you
Cold revenge would seem much sweeter, the citrus knife I guess will do
Had I made the best life choices and avoided all this mess
Didn’t need to see this coming to know this breath would be my last

Everything’s the same (nothing needs to change)
Co-pilot of my dreams (not what she seems)
She promised me a life free from this boredom
It sounded pretty sweet, just like heaven, but it wasn’t

I lay rejected and my throat lets out a groan
“Watch my wound don’t get infected” as you scroll down through my phone
Telling lies to offer cover, digging holes down in the earth
If I made other people jealous, no-one here wants to be this rough

Everything’s the same (nothing needs to change)
Co-pilot of my dreams (not what she seems)
She promised me a life free from this boredom
It sounded pretty sweet, just like a heaven, but it wasn’t

(nothing needs to change)
Co-pilot of my dreams (not what she seems)
Co-pilot of my dreams (nothing needs to change)
Co-pilot of my dreams
Co-pilot of my dreams

The Ear Goggle sounds great! This is indie rock, twee gold! There’s something Lou Reed/VU about the backing vocals in the chorus, like “she’s a Femme Fatal”. It’s my main role in music to do a solo, so my very biased opinion is this is missing a solo, or musical interlude. It’s a sweet catchy pop tune. I enjoyed this much!

I have a couple of issues with this one mix / production-wise, particularly in terms of the vocals which have a kind of phasy / metallic reverb quality that doesn't blend terribly well with the rest of the song to me (and particularly stands out against the backing vocals). The song itself is really good though, such a strong melody and the chiming guitars and xylophone (or whatever that is) are so nice. I found myself forgetting the issues and enjoying the song more each time that I listened.
