Mandibles - Message Received

When you decamped for dry Rhodesia
You clasped me, said “I need ya”
Unless I’ve got amnesia,
You didn’t propose
After holding tightly
You said that you would write me
Nearly every night-ly
Unless indisposed

And here we are, some fourteen fortnights later
Not one word from you, my hope a crater
It’s o-v-e-r over between you and me
Don’t bother explaining, message received
No use in complaining, you’re finally free
Cause it’s o v e r over, message received.

My face no doubt unsightly
Expresses such anxiety
I nonetheless go lightly
Into that dark night
Sky pounding with cold rain
I waited for the drunk train
Head pounding with the eye strain
But nothing looked right

And here I am some fourteen platforms later
Wondering what made you turn traitor
It’s o-v-e-r over between you and me
Don’t bother explaining, message received
No use in complaining, you’re finally free
Cause it’s o v e r over, message received.

Still stuck in dull Pratoria
For closure I implore ya
I should not so adore ya
After all my distress
My letterbox crammed fully
Tells me I have wept unduly
For the mail, held so cruelly
Holds the love you expressed

And here I am some forty letters later
Feeling like I’ve been hit by a freighter
And it’s b a c k o n between you and me
Don’t bother explaining, message received
No use in complaining, you’re stuck here with me
Cause it’s b a c k o n, message received.

great performances, musically & vocally. pretty catchy. the vocals are a bit too theatrical for this style I think and that does throw me off. probably too long.

fantastic writing, the lyrics and melodies are among the best I've heard from you and make this one of the strongest songs of the fight. I do agree a bit with the podcast critique though that the vocals are a little overpowering for the genre... obviously Cybronica's voice is one of the best weapons in the Mandibles arsenal but for a song as poppy as this one the operatic vibrato sometimes feels a little out of place. Still one of my favourites though.

I like our song a lot, not gonna lie. Truth came up with the idea and we banged out lyrics and verses together. Unfortunately the other members of Mandibles couldn’t join us this round, but they will be in the future. I think the bridge sounds a little out of place; maybe I we had brought in the fuzz guitar earlier? But over all I just really like it. Good thing- who wants to make music they don’t like?
