Crown Shy

Shooting arrows into the sun
I shade my eyes against the light
Waiting for the seeping night
Waiting for the stars to come

Counting echoes in a gun
Channels blaring black and white
Shooting arrows into the sun
I shade my eyes against the light

Asking who I should become
Waxy fingers holding tight
Yearning for the birds in flight
Learning songs I've never sung
Shooting arrows into the sun
I shade my eyes against the light

Waiting for the ice to melt
Waiting for the sun to fall
Whispering names down empty halls
Desperate to change myself

Running out of tales to tell
Running out of friends to call
Waiting for the ice to melt
Waiting for the sun to fall

Questions raising angry welts
All at once, or not at all
Pasting posters on the walls
Of everything I've ever felt
Waiting for the ice to melt
Waiting for the sun to fall

you'd never guess that you were limited on time this week, this is an excellent song and a rich arrangement - the crunchy guitars and dreamy keys fit really well together and you use the vocal layering and harmonies so well. One of the songs that makes the rondel feel most natural - doing two of them works really well in terms of meeting the challenge but allowing for more sections and Sonic Development, and you've packed in a ton of melody. My favourite bit is the keyboard solo though, it's so fuzzy and cool.

I love your imagery that you paint all throughout your lyrics. These are the kind of lyrics that I wish I could write. The instrument that kicks in on the middle 8 is so nice and really takes the track to a new level.

OOOH A DOUBLE RAINBO..erm, RONDEL!!! You get props for overcoming the limitation of the challenge by doubling down on the challenge. It's a great choice and very well done. I moved you up in my ranking because you nailed it.
You always have solid, likeable melodies that sometimes hit great. I liked your guitars. I liked the tom builds on the second stanza. There is good movement in the melody between stanzas. The mix could maybe be a bit more clear (I'm thinking it needs a bit more EQ separation) but it's not bad. I like the harmony. This isn't your best entry of the challenge, but it's more than solid.

Your voice is lovely as ever, but this time your lyrics struck me as a little strained. I don't think "I shade my eyes against the light" or "Waiting for the sun to fall" sit nicely within the melody you've set for them. The word "sun" particularly didn't suit being stretched out across four syllables. I don't think you failed the challenge by writing two rondels, but I did wonder if maybe writing twice as many lyrics was a choice that didn't serve the song well. I do applaud your choices in genre throughout this competition - you keep shaking it up, and for the most part your mixes have been solid! This is no exception; I really appreciate your driving beat on this one and the guitars throughout. Your tone has just enough bite and it's well performed. Other competitors should take note of your background vocals in this song - they're barely audible, but they provide a lovely texture, proving that you don't need to mix every element specifically to be heard as such for it to work really well!
