Writing these lyrics, I gave myself a constraint that hopefully no one will notice unless you're looking for it:
SpoilerAfter various comments about the prominent /s/ sounds in some of my songs, and my variously successful or unsuccessful attempts to get them under control, I decided for this round to avoid the /s/ sound altogether. That doesn't mean avoiding the letter "S" - I use it in "shadow" and "polished" for the /ʃ/ sound or at the end of words where it's pronounced /z/, neither of which seem to have caused the same issues as the unvoiced /s/.
Carte Blanche
Micah Sommersmith
There’s a shadow at the window
There’s a footfall on the floor
There’s a creaking round the corner
There’s a tapping on the door
If you hear a noise in the night,
Don’t take fright, you’re alright till the morning
When he is finally ready for you
He won’t give you a warning
He’s coming, he is coming
He’s a hungry wolf ready for lunch
Now your name’s on the menu
And he’s been given carte blanche
He doesn’t hate you, he doesn’t know you
He doesn’t care what you’ve done
He’s been given his orders
He’s been given a gun
The perfect killing machine,
He’s been quite carefully calibrated
Gleaming, polished and clean
And you know that he’s well-lubricated
He’s coming, he is coming
He’s a hungry wolf ready for lunch
Now your name’s on the menu
And he’s been given carte blanche
Oh he's coming
He’s a hungry wolf ready for lunch
Now your name’s on the menu
And he’s been given carte blanche
