Forum postA very good song, possibly my favorite so far. There's some awkward scansion issues, but I like how you took the educational challenge and went with it, but still gave it an emotional core by relating it back to yourself.
First Blood
by John Kloberdanz
Attila ruled the Huns 'till he died in 453
His kingdom spread from the Danube to the Baltic Sea
He ravaged all the peoples that we now call Europeans
Didn't treat his fellow man like fellow human beings
Italy, France and Germany all fell before his might
His descendants all blended in, now they know wrong from right
Attila always drew first blood
He always landed the first blow
It's not the way I live my life
What did Attila know
William was the Duke of Normandy and became an English king
He sailed across the Channel and took over everything
At the Battle of Hastings he killed his brother and soon he won the thrown
For hundreds of years the English fought to make their land their own
For all the Middle Ages England and France were at war
They're friendly now but they remember what came before
William always drew first blood
He always landed the first blow
It's not the way I live my life
What did William know
I can read all of my history books and learn all that they say
But it doesn't change the way I am and how I live each day
I'll never draw first blood
Like a conqueror or a villian
It's not the way I live my life
It's not the life I'm living
