Entry from Shock Value in Nur Ein XIV.

Make a song with quiet and loud parts -- like every Pixies song you love. This can mean crescendos or decrescendos, sudden loud noises, whatever, just make good use of dynamics.

Shock Value - Abominominous

Oh, brother, it's my delicate regret to tell you
we caught the verdict, heard the word and passed the envelope around
cold comfort, devastate eviscer-valuation
these tonic treasures couldn't fetch the tidy sums you once avowed

Rode rugged, weathered, worn and left to blaze in infrared,
And mem'ry is the fog of lore, afflicting estimates.
Eroded gradual, with windfall legends blinding
Huey Reuberts picture disc, not as rare as you think it is

it's not as much as you hoped, it isn't even close
so keep your expectations low
no proof no provenance
is this your final offer
the best you can do?

(solo)

Hot blooded, is it even worth packin' up to take back?
Salted Adonis, fighting tears of beef defeat back up the ducts
Cold clarity, sentiment switches polarity
Stick it in storage and forget it, a nice day for an off-white wedding

Kept carefully, thought a bottom dollar'd be there for me
"you wouldn't believe how many they made of these"
I think you must be mistook, please would you take another look
one man's treasure, one man's burden
and both to the earth returnin'

it's not as much as you hoped, it isn't even close
so keep your expectations low
exposure and experience
that's my final offer
that's the most that i'm willing to do

really struggled with this one at first, but after a few loops through these tracks it grew on me quite a bit. I think I have "riff bias" against the kind of quick, busy bass riffs you're employing here and I kinda hate the muffled double-kick-drum rhythm thing, but there are some impressive vocals and melodies and this probably worked its way up into the upper-middle of the pack for me. Dynamics? There's a brief quiet bit at one point, I guess?

This feels very rich and fully realized. I don’t usually like noodley guitar bits, but they fit well here. The bass/piano rhythm works well.

I love the sound of it from the very start. Those fast triplets are great. Like with last time, I love the sound of your lyrics; the phonemes really pleasing, particularly the way you use assonance. The way you say the words, too, is fabulous. I really like how you say ‘close’: [klaous]. From there, let’s go into your choice of words- things like fog of lore, eviscer-valuation- is really great. Your lyrics are beautifully crafted, and as a nice nice bow on top, they depict this hilarious story about antiques road show! I suppose technically there are dynamics, but it seems to be mostly a everything-drops-but-one-track kind of thing. Totally counts, but as a whole it felt like it had the same energy. I like this track more and more every time I hear it. It’s going in the permanent collection.

Pawn Shop, the rock band. Lyrically it’s a little hard to follow the first time around, but with the lyrics in front of me it was easier. You had my head movin’ to the music, and the more I listen to this the more I like it. Really enjoyed the use of alliteration in this song as well. Well done.
