Headphones
Chris Cogott
He's still living at home
He's waiting for the right girl to come along
Afraid to take a chance on his own
His mother tells him she's tired of washing his clothes
Everyday he hears how he has to move on
So he goes into his room and shuts the door
He puts his headphones on
With the music loud he tries to drown out the
Sound of his mother's desperate pleas
She goes to work every morning
Waits at the station alone again
The train arrives to take her away
She stares out the window hopes for a better way
It's the same routine everyday
Right next to her there's an empty seat
She puts her headphones on
Turns the music loud and tries to drown out
The sound of the silence and the city
Then one day he takes that empty seat
She listens to her music tries to look discreet
He asks her “what's that song you're listening to?”
She takes one headphone off
And gives it to him
He has a listen and he's liking what he hears
And now they're sharing headphones
He likes her's and she likes his
He's got a big surprise for mom
They're getting married and she's moving in
(one big happy family)
She's moving in
