adam adamant
it was 1788 and louis xvi was feeling great,
relaxing, probably eating grapes
and he turned to his mate jean-frederic and he said
"we don't have enough money, need to tax the proletariat"
then jaques necker burst in and was like 'wait wait,
we can't tax the poor they got nothing to take'
we should tax the church and the nobles
they can spare a little dosh from their big estates'
bam! he was gone replaced the next day by
charles alexandre de colone.
but he was a useless son of a gun
and soon they were worse off than when they had begun
--chorus--
and it was like
9 8 7 6
time to panic,
time to pick up sticks
5 4 3 2
we'll storm the bastille
and there's nothing you can do
1
and it was done
and it was done
--end chorus--
it was 1789 and louis xvi's control was slip-sliding,
his confidence was in decline
so he called the estates general to appease the french people
and he thought it would be just in time
but the people got together on a tennis court,
they made a constitution, even the police gave their support
with the army arriving
the people outcrying
the tension was rising
and it wasn't suprising
it all kicked off and the bastille fell down,
the governor's head was on a spike and the mayor gunned down
so louis backed down and shook hands,
long live the king and also long live the land
long live the king and also long live the land
--chorus--
fast track a bit to 1793 now
in between is boring so i'll spare you the details
louis had run off to the country, was brought back the next day
whilst the people tried to deal with constitutional monarchy
but louis still had power and wouldn't let go
and the king wanted war so to war they did go
but prussia said 'hey we want louis on the throne'
and they people were like 'no, he's been overthrown'
january 17th the vote was cast
4 days later would be louis' last
on that day many were crying,
others were cheering,
and louis was dying
it must be a quick way to go
as they slice through your throat
and your head rolls off alone
some people said they saw him speak
'time to panic, so get to your feet'
--chorus--
